Controversial Irish icon Conor McGregor has once again announced his retirement from the cage. A former champion of both the featherweight and lightweight divisions, he has become a name integrally sewn into UFC, and announced his retirement on Twitter shortly after the close of UFC 250.

The 31-year-old posted the news in the early hours of Sunday morning. “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting,” the message reads. “Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

This isn’t the first time McGregor has come out and announced he intends to bow out of the ring for good. He announced similar plans in both 2016 and 2019, although his fighting career did resume both inside and outside the cage. In his latest comeback in January of this year, McGregor met Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout for UFC 246. The Irish star won in just 40 seconds by TKO, marking his first victory in three years.

Talking to ESPN, McGregor said, “The game just does not excite me, and that’s that. All this waiting around. There’s nothing happening… I don’t know what it is. There’s just no buzz for me.”
