With the arrival of another team to the NWSL comes a plethora of famous personalities seeking their stake in team ownership. Among them are movie star Natalie Portman and the two-year-old daughter of Serena Williams.

On Tuesday, NWSL unveiled their intention to expand to Los Angeles in 2022. This fresh addition will become the 11th team in the League, which has been on a swift growth trajectory since the US triumphed in the World Cup last year. The team is currently functioning under the provisional title of Angel City.

Despite the ultimate name choice, the team is already confirmed to have a diverse ownership group consisting of renowned figures from the realms of sports and entertainment. This collective includes former US women’s national team athletes Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Joy Fawcett, Rachel Buehler, Tisha Venturini-Hoch, and Abby Wambach. Additionally, another notable sports personality, Serena Williams, who also holds a minority stake in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, is part of the ownership consortium. Joining her in this latest endeavor are her spouse, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and their daughter, Alexis Olympia.

Apart from these well-known sports figures, there are also actors like Natalie Portman, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, and Uzo Aduba.

“We aimed to ensure the inclusion of exceptional partners,” shared Portman with the LA Times. “Every one of us brings a unique skill set to the team.”
