The American striker and standout player of the triumphant 2019 World Cup squad Alex Morgan initiated her first match with her fresh squad, Tottenham Hotspur, this Saturday. The competition finalized in a draw of 1-1 against Reading.

Coming on to the field in the 69th minute, with the game already leveled at the definitive scoreline of 1-1, Morgan’s appearance failed to sway the game in the way Spurs supporters were likely anticipating. It has been merely seven months since Morgan’s daughter, Charlie, was born, and her participation for Tottenham marks her maiden time on the pitch in over a year.

“It was one of those matches that posed a challenge to get involved in and adapt,” remarked Tottenham co-manager Juan Amoros. “However, I believe she performed commendably. Our emphasis shouldn’t be solely on Alex scoring the decisive goal but rather on relishing her return to the football pitch.”

Amoros further expressed his desire for her to “remain in England indefinitely,” as a few Spurs fans doubted if she would even play for the team prior to the possibility of shifting back to the US in the forthcoming year.

“I desire her to be a part of my squad forever,” stated Amoros. “… She is among the finest professionals and individuals I have coached.”
