Frenzied UFC enthusiasts are expressing their shock on Twitter subsequent to an unusual conclusion in a match held in Vegas on Saturday night.
The contest between Dan Argueta and Ronnie Lawrence from the bantamweight category took place in the preliminary segment of UFC Vegas 75 (also dubbed as “UFC on ESPN: Vettori vs. Cannonier”) on Saturday. The encounter lasted just a little over two minutes, as a result of an erroneous judgement made by the referee, Keith Peterson.
As can be witnessed in the footage below, Peterson incorrectly believed that Lawrence had tapped out while Argueta was attempting to apply a chokehold. However, it’s evidently clear that Lawrence never actually signaled submission to the hold:
Upon thorough review, it was established that Lawrence did not concede defeat, leading to a modification of the decision to a draw.
The 29-year-old Argueta, standing at 5 feet 7 inches and weighing 135 pounds, entered the battle against Lawrence with a remarkable record of 9 wins, 1 loss, and 0 draws, which included two successful knockouts and four wins via submission. This contest marked Argueta’s return since UFC Fight Night 217 in January, where he bested Nick Aguirre.
On the other hand, Lawrence, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and also weighs 135 pounds, arrived with a career tally of 8 victories and 2 losses, with four of those wins achieved through knockouts. This particular bout was Lawrence’s first since his previous match on July 9 last year, where he suffered a defeat at the hands of Saidyokub Kakhramonov during UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev.
The highlight of Saturday’s event was the middleweight clash between Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier.
