Novak Djokovic grappled with an injury and persevered through a total of five sets to clinch victory in his match against Taylor Fritz with a score of 7-6(1), 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2. The current top-ranked player in the world will now advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Despite exceeding 50 games, the initial 90 minutes played out as most spectators would have expected. Djokovic swiftly secured a two-set advantage over Fritz, the 31st-ranked player in the world. It was in the early stages of the third set, with the score tied at 1-1 and during Fritz’s service game, that Djokovic slipped and sustained an injury, particularly feeling discomfort in his abdominal area.

He underwent medical treatment throughout the match duration.

The match progressed with Fritz closing the gap in the subsequent two sets and concluded around 11:30 pm, following the evacuation of fans from the stadium in adherence to Victoria’s imposition of another brief lockdown commencing at midnight.

Amidst the 10-minute period required for the stadium to clear, Djokovic received additional medical care. The game went on in a largely vacant stadium, with the Serbian ultimately emerging victorious.

“This victory stands out as one of the most remarkable in my career,” remarked Djokovic post-match. “…To come through is truly a moment I will cherish eternally.”
