NBA Round-Up: Morant Takes Down LeBron James And Co. Again & Celtics’ Wayward Shooting

There was something special about Ja Morant the moment he was drafted. He continued to show why he had so much promise right out of college on Wednesday night after he followed up a brilliant showing against the Phoenix Suns with another against the Los Angeles Lakers in a 104-99 home win. Morant upstaged LeBron James this time, scoring 41 points and grabbing ten rebounds against the purple and gold’s new ‘big man.’ James had a big game, too, dropping 37 and hauling down 13 rebounds, but those numbers weren’t enough to hold off the Grizzlies chargeback from a 14-point deficit.

Desmond Bane kept on performing well for Memphis, too, scoring 20 in the win while Russell Westbrook had his customary triple-double (16 points, 12 assists, ten rebounds) as the Lakers dropped a fifth in six outings. Elsewhere, the Boston Celtics were putting on a clinic on how not to shoot the basketball. They would score just 82 points in a 91-82 home defeat to the LA Clippers, but their three-point shooting was something to marvel at. They made just four of those out of 42 attempts on the evening for a paltry nine percent. Eric Bledsoe led the fourth-quarter charge for the Clippers, scoring ten of his 17 late in the going to earn his side the win. Marcus Morris, Jr. had 23 to lead them for the contest while Boston was led by Jaylen Brown’s 30 in defeat.
