Mexico Lose And US Draw In The FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

The United States and Mexico didn’t play that well and were not on top of the list in the first eight rounds of FIFA World Cup qualifiers that took place in North America. In fact, Canada was the topper. After gaining a win in a match on Tuesday evening in Edmonton with 2-1, the Canadians remained victorious in other matches. Since 1986, Canada did not appear in the first World Cup but with the fabulistic goals of Cycle Larin, the team got a chance to prove them.

The United States also didn’t win on Tuesday on the road in Kingston as they took on Jamaica, but they did at least take a point after a 1-1 draw. If soccer was decided by ‘decision’ like the UFC, this would have been declared a loss for the USA, but that’s not how it works and they are now second in the group with six matches still remaining. Tim Weah scored the US’s goal after 11 minutes, but West Ham star Michail Antonio found the net 11 minutes later to equalize. Elsewhere, the Netherlands booked their places and denied Norway theirs with a late-show 2-0 win. Goals came courtesy of Steven Bergwijn and Memphis Depay. Argentina also booked their spot in Qatar in about a year’s time as they drew 0-0 with Brazil at home to put them over the top. One more enticing bit of news is that elites Italy, Euro 2020(1) winners, and Portugal could end up playing against each other for the last chance to make it come March if the playoff draw in Europe goes a certain way.
