Max Scherzer claimed the third spot. In the American League, the competition was markedly clear as Robbie Ray effortlessly clinched the honor. The esteemed player from Toronto amassed 201 points, significantly ahead of Gerrit Cole, the only other recipient of a first-place vote, and Lance Lynn. Ray employed his diverse array of pitches to secure an ERA of 2.84 over 193.1 innings. Additionally, his WAR of 6.7 (wins above replacement) outshined all other league pitchers, making his victory in the award category almost inevitable and subsequently elevating his status as a highly sought-after player as he heads into free agency for the forthcoming 2022 season. Earlier, the Rookie of the Year distinctions were distributed, with Jonathan India from the Cincinnati Reds securing the title in the NL, while Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays successfully fended off teammate Wander Franco to claim the AL accolade.
