The mixed martial arts fighter who is known for his antics, Conor McGregor was charged on Friday after a video released showed him attacking a bus that was full of UFC fighters who were arriving for an upcoming event held in Brooklyn, New York.
As per New York Police Department, McGregor was charged with three counts of assault and a count of criminal mischief. According to the New York Post report, McGregor turned himself on Thursday night at a police precinct and had his lawyer accompanying him,
As per sources, McGregor’s lawyer visited the police precinct holding the fighter’s hand, and it is expected that he will not be released until a court hearing. The video footage shows McGregor with a group of people creating chaos on Thursday as they take an elevator to a loading dock at the Barclays Center. McGregor is seen throwing trash cans at the bus and prevented from throwing a barricade at the bus.
The UFC released a statement that said that McGregor and Artem Lobov came into the area with more than a dozen people and vandalized the bus. The statement said, “Lobov has been removed from this weekend’s card, and individuals involved in the incident are not welcome at tomorrow’s ceremonial weigh-in or Saturday’s event at Barclays Center.”
As per the NYPD, McGregor threw a hand truck at the bus which caused a minor injury to a person traveling on the bus. Moreover, at least two fights have been canceled at the Saturday’s UFV 223 card due to this incident.
The UFC said in a statement that the organization deems the disruption completely unacceptable and is currently working on the consequences that will follow.
Reportedly, Michael Chiesa, a fighter has suffered from injuries caused due to the broken window and is hospitalized.
