The Atlanta Hawks aim to swiftly become top contenders in the Eastern Conference through a significant trade proposal that includes securing the experienced All-Star Paul George.
In 2021, the NBA witnessed the Hawks surprising everyone by making it to the Eastern Conference Finals. However, following that success, they struggled to progress and faced elimination in the opening round of the playoffs for two consecutive years. Despite the outstanding performance of Trae Young, Atlanta seeks to make a major move to enhance their chances.
The trade proposal, presented by James Piercey at NBA Analysis Network, suggests that the Hawks would part ways with De’Andre Hunter, A.J. Griffin, Onyeka Okongwu, Bogdan Bogdanović, along with their 2024 and 2029 first-round picks in exchange for the future Hall of Famer, Paul George, from the Los Angeles Clippers.
“There have been suggestions that the acquisition of Dejounte Murray was a misstep. The Hawks brought him in for his exceptional defensive abilities. Murray’s capacity to defend the point of attack was intended to compensate for Trae Young’s limitations on that end. Unfortunately, his compatibility on the offensive end alongside Young has been dubious.
George could alleviate those challenges. As an exceptional shooter, he would synergize well with both young playmakers. Furthermore, George is an exceptional defender. He would also offer the Hawks another playmaker. There’s no doubt that George is an excellent fit here and would elevate the Hawks.”
This trade proposal appears beneficial for both teams. The Hawks would secure another All-Star to support Trae Young, while the Clippers would benefit from younger scorers and enhanced depth. Although the Clippers are currently seemingly committed to maintaining the George-Leonard combination, the right offer could sway their decision. If George becomes available, the Hawks could potentially emerge as a feasible destination for him.
