The Colorado Avalanche have a really big star on their hands in the form of defenseman Cale Makar. He showed that on Tuesday night with one of the more impressive goals you’ll ever see to win a game. He turned on a dime, or perhaps something even smaller, skated in close, and then juked the goaltender with absolute aplomb. The breathtaking goal gave his team a 4-3 win in overtime over the Chicago Blackhawks, capping a game that had gone back-and-forth in regulation.

Not many better ways to end a game than that, folks. Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks continued to get a lot out of Troy Terry’s breakout season as he led them to a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers thanks to his first-ever NHL hat trick. He scored his first two goals in the opening ten minutes to set the tone of the game, but he was then forced to wait until late in the third to score his third. He did so with the Flyers playing with an open net to chase a goal, registering from behind the blue line to wrap up his momentous night. That’s 21 goals for him so far, good enough for third in the league. More importantly, though, he has had 11 of those goals be quite meaningful, either helping the team tie a game or give them the lead.
