Game 1 of the 2021 World Series is in the books. And it didn’t take very long to get off and running in terms of scoring, either. The Atlanta Braves scored on the third pitch of the game, and the very first swing, as Jorge Soler launched a home run over the left-field wall and into the bleachers in super-quick fashion. Austin Riley then doubled Ozzie Albies home to make it 2-0 after just a single frame. The second was more of the same as Soler grounded into a fielder’s choice to drive in another run. Framber Valdez’s miserable outing was concluded in the top of the third when Adam Duvall hit a two-run blast to make it 5-0 to the ATL.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, it wasn’t all good news as their starting pitcher was chased before three innings were complete as well. Charlie Morton, a former Houston Astros player, fought for 16 pitches following being hit in the second inning, but he ultimately had to leave after 2.2 innings pitched with a fractured fibula. That’s the sort of fight the Braves have put up all year, and it’s indicative of how they’ve reached this far despite not even being .500 until August. Freddie Freeman would hit a sac fly later on for the Braves to extend their lead back to five at 6-1, and the Braves would hold on to win 6-2 when the final out was recorded. Game 2 takes place in Houston on Tuesday night, and it will be a game packed full of pressure for the Astros… but they are used to it after years of being in this spot and will not be an easy team to defeat for the second consecutive outing.
